“I cannot Tell a Lie”. Well, Mason Locke Weems sure as hell could. After Washington Died he wrote a biography on him. This is where a lot of the misinformation about Washington comes from. He took a lot of creative liberties while writing the book. One of the things he made up was the story about Washington chopping down the cherry tree. Weems admitted that it never happened, and he put that in the book to show the virtue and integrity of Washington.
